Welcome to the new ABA Lending Library!

Before requesting any scores please read through this message to understand how our new system works.

Browsing the website:

To browse our entire library select "catalog" at the top of this page. Select the magnifying glass in the top right corner to search by title, composer, or arranger. You may also search by grade through the collections below. There are also collections from previous ABA festival repertoire lists below. There are other search tips at the bottom of this page!

Instrumentation lists and score samples are being uploaded. If a score you'd like to look at has not been cataloged please email library@albertabandassociation.com and it will be added.

Borrowing Scores:

Please note that if you reside in Alberta a membership is required to borrow from us. To learn about becoming a member visit our main website. Band directors across Canada are welcome to use our library and are encouraged to purchase a membership with your provincial band association.

Scores are $15 to borrow for 5 months. Shipping and tax are included in the $15 rental fee. If we have multiple copies of a piece you can select which copy you want through the "Set" drown down menu. Information about the sets can be found in the description.

If a piece has an extra conductor score (shown in the description) you may borrow it for an extra $5. To borrow it select "extra score" from the "set" drop down menu and add it to your cart.

If you wish to pay by cheque, please email library@albertabandassociation.com before putting in an order.

If a score you'd like to borrow is checked out you can place a hold on it by emailing library@albertabandassociation.com. Unless there is already a hold on that score it should be returned and sent to you within 5 months.

If any markings need to be made on the score or parts please do so with light pencil markings. All markings should be erased before the score is returned.

Local Pickup

If you live in or near Edmonton you may choose to pick up a score from our library. Our library is located on the University of Alberta Campus. Pickups can happen at the Education building or Fine Arts building (by appointment only). Once your score is ready you will be contacted via email to schedule a pickup time.

Photocopying rules:

Borrowers should abide by current copyright legislation regarding the photocopying of musical material.

Renewing scores:

If there are no holds on a score it may be renewed for an additional month for $10 up to three times. Renewals can only be requested one month at a time. Email library@albertabandassociation.com to request a renewal.

Returning scores:

Before returning a piece please ensure that all parts are included, and put in order according to instrumentation. There is a list of parts, including any missing or extras, in the score cover which should be used to verify that no parts are missing.

A return shipping label with instructions will have been sent with your package. This shipping label will allow you to return the score without having to pay for shipping. If the return shipping label is lost the borrower is responsible for shipping fees.

Fees:

Annual membership fees can be found here.

Score rentals are $15 for 5 months. Scores renewals are $10 a month.

Overdue materials will be assessed a fine of $15 per month.

Damaged and lost parts will be replaced at cost to the borrower.

If available, borrowing an extra conductor score is $5.

Search Tips

Have a new band? Try searching "beginner band." For more specific results search "grade 1/2," "first octave," "first 6 notes," "simplified instrumentation," "supplementary material," "unison bass line," or "piano reduction."

Searching for "extra resources" will bring up pieces that come with extra features. For specific results search "piano reduction," "supplementary material," "world parts," or "CD included." If you are working with method books (such as standard of excellence or tradition of excellence) you may also search for the method books to find pieces that correlate to the books.

Want to borrow extra conductor scores? Search "extra score" to see which pieces have extra scores available for loan.

Check out previous Festival of Bands syllabus, sightreading syllabus, or pieces that were performed by honour bands at Music Conference Alberta Gala Concerts through the Festival Collections and Festival Rep List above this section.

We are in the process of uploading instrumentation lists and score samples. To request a piece email library@albertabandassociation.com.
